Do you have a classic hourglass figure? Are you the same dress size in every shop? Who is! In this workshop, Alison Leese, expert seamstress and owner of Ministry of Craft, will guide you through creating a bodice block (the essential tool for making your own patterns), which fits across the bust, at the waist and on the shoulders as well.
You’ll begin with a standard-size bodice block, examining full (or small) bust adjustments, bust apex, dart position and lengthening and shortening lines, to make initial pattern changes based on your measurements and fit requirements. After sewing a toile in calico fabric, you’ll learn how to adjust it to achieve a perfect fit. Then, transfer all your adjustments to your personalised bodice block.
By the end of the workshop, not only will you have a well-fitted bodice block, but an understanding of how to apply relevant adjustments to other sewing patterns and how to adapt your bodice block to create basic patterns, by adding volume, transferring darts, or incorporating styling details like princess seams, yokes, gathers, and pleats.
Consider attending this workshop before our WIGGLE DRESS or FIT and FLARE workshop to achieve a perfect fit.

As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
All materials and equipment are supplied for this workshop and are included in the price.
A better fit can be achieved if you try the sample you make on the day over your bra. If you are not keen on getting down to your bra, bring along a thin vest or top. Wearing a pair of trousers or a skirt rather than a dress for fittings will also be easier. A hair bobble is useful if you have long hair to tie back while your bodice is pinned.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments. There will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local shop.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (5060 QDC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring along your own machines.
