Choose from one of the styles below or from our Dressmaking category in your own choice of fabric (see 'Additional Information' for fabric requirements) and master essential dressmaking techniques as well as using one of our Janome overlockers for a professional finish to raw edges.
Tunic Dress / Top
Designed to be the perfect versatile wear, you can choose your own tunic length – either dress or top length and your length of sleeve. This fashion focused tunic, with a flattering boat neck and inset sleeves, is the perfect everyday wear.
Kimono
A kimono is perfect for swanning around the house, covering up in the sun or channelling your inner bohemian at festivals. Finish the raw edges of your fabric using self-made binding and to complete the look make a tie to wear around your middle or even wear in your hair should your inner bohemian get its own way.
Kimono Jacket
A Kimono style jacket is a perfect garment for summer layering or a swish night out. Finish the raw edges of your fabric using self-made binding with the option of adding a matching or contrast cuff to extend the sleeve length.
Stretch Batwing Top
Holy pins and needles, Batman! Become your own sewing superhero and overcome the fear of working with that troublesome stretchy fabric. Using an overlocker, construct a top with the sleeve and body cut as one and cuff and hem panels. This is a good style to test out your newfound skills if you have attended our Overlocking for Beginners workshop.
We love these projects, and your wardrobe will too.
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a maximum class size of five, if you have any week-day availability to attend please get in touch to arrange a date (this workshop is also run at Bamber Sewing Machines in Eccles).

You will need to bring the following to the workshop:
Tunic Dress / Top
2m for a top and 2.5m for a dress of either 150cm or 115cm wide fabric, please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
20cm of fusible interfacing.
Matching sewing thread.
Kimono
A light to medium weight woven cotton fabric such as lawn, is ideal for a good drape. If you want the challenge of a slippery fabric such as crepe, viscose or satin, please let us know as we may need to allocate more time
3m of either 150cm or 115cm wide fabric, please note, the sleeve length may be slightly shorter on narrower width fabrics as the body and sleeve are cut as one.

2m of either 150cm or 115cm wide fabric, please note, the sleeve length may be slightly shorter on narrower width fabrics as the body and sleeve are cut as one, but you can add a separate cuff. If you would like a cuff in contrast fabric you will need 40cm and you could also do the binding in contrast fabric too which would need an extra 10cm.

2m of 150cm wide medium-weight moderate stretch / knit fabric like jersey, cotton knit, ponte roma.
20cm of fusible interfacing.

Contact us before the course if your hip measurement is larger than 132cm so we can ensure there is a pattern block made in your size and so we can advise how much fabric to bring.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local deli.
