One of my favourite things to crochet and knit with is jersey yarn, it's really easy to make your own and I always love a bit of up cycling.
Picking your t-shirt
Any t-shirt will work but those with less stretch are slightly easier to work with. The more fabric the better so men's t-shirt are great.
Step 1
Rather than cutting lots of strips and attaching them together, cut like this and maximise the length. Strips should be about 2cm (1 inch) wide. Cut the majority horizontally as it works better than vertically
Step 2
Before you start working with the fabric it's a good idea to pre-stretch it.
Pull short lengths gently and the fabric will tend to coil in on its self, creating a tube of fabric. Roll this up as you do it for ease of working with later.
Tip - Be careful around the corners, don't stretch these bits as they are more likely to rip.Once in a ball, you are ready to go. Use size 10mm /12mm knitting needles or crochet hook.
