Using a fabric of your choice (see ‘What to Bring’), master essential dressmaking techniques as well as using one of our Janome overlockers for a professional finish to raw edges.
The gathers add a touch of sophistication, while the cleverly hidden channel allows you to adjust the neckline with a tie, giving you the perfect fit every time. You can customise the length to your liking with or without a gathered tier.

As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
You will need the following materials for your garment (all the equipment will be provided). Lightweight, drapey fabrics such as cotton lawn or viscose are ideal, creating soft, fluid gathers around the neck (anything too slippy would be more challenging to work with). Medium weight fabrics like poplin can make the gathers look bulky, particularly on a fuller bust. If using a more structured fabric, choose a larger, looser fit to give the gathers more room. Nothing stretchy or bulky would be suitable:
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments. There will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local shop.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (5060 QDC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring along your own machines.
