We all know how good it feels when you find that perfect fitting pair of trousers - but how about creating your own personal pattern block that can be adapted to create a limitless range of well-fitting trousers designed by you?
Start with measuring your shape correctly to use flat pattern cutting to draft a basic trouser block (the starting tool for creating your own patterns) tailored to your body shape. You’ll then sew up a ‘toile’ - a simple test trouser from calico - to check your pattern fit.
After making any necessary adjustments to your toile, we will show you how to transfer them onto your block and how you can now adapt your basic block to make a complete pattern adding seam allowances and all the necessary markings.
This is the perfect course to attend prior to our CAPRI TROUSERS workshop. You’ll have the means and measurements to go on to make a pair of handmade, perfectly fitted capri pants and look every inch the cool cat.
Please note the trouser pattern you will make is a women's draft, if you would like to make a man's draft please contact us.
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops. Some knowledge of sewing patterns would be an added bonus but not essential.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a maximum class size of five.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
If you would like to purchase this workshop as a gift, please contact us with the workshop name and date or go to our Gift a Workshop page.
All materials and equipment are supplied for this workshop and are included in the price.
You may want to consider what you wear on the day to try on the calico toile (which will finish around the knee) to check the fit. Wearing a pair of trousers rather than a dress for fittings will be easier
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be staggered lunch breaks while everyone gets fitted (there may be a little waiting time), so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local deli.
