You know THAT item in your wardrobe? It’s your wear-it-every-day, so-blimmin-comfortable, wish-I’d-bought-three absolute favourite. But it has seen better days and you’re feeling anxious about its inevitable demise. Well now you can clone that clothing!
Our expert dressmaker, Alison Leese, will teach you how to make a pattern from your favourite garments without having to hack them to pieces, be they dresses, tops, trousers or skirts.
You'll learn how to trace your garment and recognise the basic shapes that make up a paper pattern, transfer details like darts, pleats, pockets etc. and add information like notches, grain-lines and labelling to go home with a complete hand drafted copycat pattern (please note you do not make the garment on this workshop).
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops. Some knowledge of sewing patterns would be an added bonus but not essential.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a small class size.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
If you would like to purchase this workshop as a gift, please contact us with the workshop name and date or go to our Gift a Workshop page.
You’ll need to bring one or two existing garments from your ‘closet’ along to the course, and you’ll choose just one to trace on the day. Please do not bring anything too large or with lots of parts, for example a ball gown, as there will not be enough space or time to complete. A garment made from woven fabric rather than stretch/knit is recommended for your first clone. A fully lined garment that would be very difficult to lie flat or a stitched down knotted front top/dress that would be impossible to lie flat should be avoided.
All materials and equipment are supplied for this workshop and are included in the price.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments.
