Do you have a classic hourglass figure? Are you the same dress size in every shop? Nope, nor us. Because you’re an individual with a one-of-a-kind body it feels like it can take aeons to find a garment, which fits across the bust, at the waist and on the shoulders as well.
Learn how to adapt a bodice pattern fitted to your own size as well as how to adapt it to create a sewing pattern.
You’ll start with a standard size bodice block and make some basic initial adjustments according to your measurements. Moving on to sew up a toile in calico and learn how to adjust it to fit you perfectly, finally transferring all your adjustments onto your own personal pattern block (a customised pattern with no style details).
We will show you how to create different bodice shapes by adding volume, transferring darts, or creating princess seams and add styling details such as a yolk, gathers and pleats. Finishing off with facings you'll have everything you need for a perfect pattern.
This is the perfect course to attend prior to our WIGGLE DRESS or FIT & FLARE workshop to create your own pattern. If you have any week-day availability to attend a smaller class earlier (or later) for a more bespoke fitting (for the same workshop price), please get in touch.
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops. Some knowledge of sewing patterns would be an added bonus but not essential.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a small class size.

A better fit can be achieved if you try the sample you make on the day over your bra. If you are not keen on getting down to your bra, bring along a thin vest or top. Wearing a pair of trousers or a skirt rather than a dress for fittings will also be easier. A hair bobble is useful if you have long hair to tie back while your bodice is pinned.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local deli.
