Want a dress with a bit of stretch but lots of oomph? Lusting after a sweater that’s comfortable but still oh-so-chic? Then book now to sew your own ‘DORIS’, either a Short 1960's style shift dress, or perfect weekend sweater, with our very own Lazy Seamstress, Jeanette Archer (FYI- she’s not AT ALL lazy! She’s a mother of 6 and busy running her own sewing business too!).
Jeanette will coach you through every step of sewing your pull-on tunic dress or sweater in your own choice of fabric (see 'Additional Information'). You’ll get to grips with soft and stretchy fabric, learn to sew raglan sleeves and patch pockets, add neat neck and cuff bands, AND you can choose to make your garment on either the sewing machine or the overlocker. PHEW!
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
Based at Bamber Sewing Machines, Ministry of Craft customers get 10% discount on the wide range of fabrics, haberdashery and sewing patterns and there are various discounts available on their sewing machines and overlockers.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
You will need 2m of medium weight knit fabric or 1.5m of the main body fabric and 1m of contrasting fabric for arms and pockets, if you want, you can buy on the day from Bamber Sewing Machines and get 10% discount.
Contact us before the course if your measurements are outside the below ranges so we can ensure there is a pattern block made in your size and so we can advise how much fabric to bring.
This workshop is part of a Sew Social day, there may be a short wait
if the tutor needs to demonstrate a technique required for a different
is, however, a great opportunity to pick up additional skills and
chat about what others are doing.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to Asda located opposite.
