The cutest dress on the block. Our Fit & Flare dress could be sewn up in retro cotton as a sweet and wearable day dress, or made from something special to become a fiercely flirty occasion dress. A style designed to flatter whilst giving a little more movement than a wiggle dress and you can decide how long or short you make the length of the skirt.
In your own choice of fabric (see 'Additional Information'), choose to make either a sleeveless shift-style dress or one with a flattering mid-length sleeve and make the ultimate dress to flatter your figure.
You’ll learn how to use a pattern block, sew darts, insert sleeves or add a sleeve facing, add a neck facing, put in an invisible zip, gather and attach the skirt and finish hems perfectly. What’s more you’ll get a truly professional finish while learning to use one of our Janome overlockers.
INTRODUCTION TO BODICE FITTING is the ideal workshop to attend prior to this workshop. If you are bigger than a C-Cup, you can draft a bodice with a full bust adjustment then bring it along to use. If you have any week-day availability to attend a smaller class in Chorlton for a more bespoke fitting, please get in touch.
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a maximum class size of five, if you have any week-day availability to attend please get in touch to arrange a date (this workshop is also run at Bamber Sewing Machines in Eccles).
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
If you would like to purchase this workshop as a gift, please contact us with the workshop name and date or go to our Gift a Workshop page.
You will need to bring the following to the workshop:
2.5m of 150cm wide fabric or 3m of 115cm wide fabric.
Please avoid bulky or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal. If you are bigger than a C-cup and are attending without taking the INTRODUCTION TO BODICE FITTING workshop first, then please consider purchasing a fabric with a small amount of stretch to it (e.g. cotton with elastane), to give you more ease.
A 56cm (22") concealed/invisible zip (be careful not to pick up a standard zip).
20cm of fusible interfacing.
Matching thread.
Contact us before the course if your bust circumference measures outside the range
80cm - 102cm so we can ensure there is a pattern block made in your size and so we can advise how much fabric to bring.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local deli.
