Ready to take your sewing to the next level, ever wondered what those feet in your sewing box were for? Then this 3-week course is for you!
Create a stylish vintage apron jam packed with techniques designed to build your portfolio of sewing skills and give you the confidence to tackle any sewing project and sewing tool too.
Shape your apron with gathering at the front waist and darts at the back waist, invaluable skills used abundantly in dressmaking.
Jump on one of our overlockers to finish the exposed raw fabric edges to get a clean and professional appearance.
Add super useful pockets in the side seams so you know how to add to any dressmaking project or even existing garments!
Use a blind hem foot to create an invisible hem at the back opening, a fantastic time saving technique as an alternative to hand stitching.
Make piping and binding from your own fabric then insert the piping into the waistband seam using a piping foot and sew binding around the hem adding design detail and a professional clean finish.
Use the amazing walking foot designed to tackle tricky fabrics and bulky layers to attach the waistband to the apron and finish off using a buttonhole foot to make a one-step automatic buttonhole and a button foot to sew on a button.
Could we possibly fit any more skills and tools into one project?
Leave knowing lots of new techniques and with a gorgeous apron!
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a small class size.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
If you would like to purchase this workshop as a gift, please contact us with the workshop name and date or go to our Gift a Workshop page.
You will need to bring the following to the workshop:
50cm of fabric for the apron skirt and piping - If your waist size is 90cm or more choose a wider width fabric (approx. 150cm rather than the narrower width of 115cm).
50cm contrasting fabric for the waistband, pocket bags and bias binding.
Please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
1 button approximately 25mm (maximum 30mm) in diameter, a 2-hole or 4-hole button is needed rather than one with a shank at the back (these cannot be sewn on using the sewing machine). I have jars of buttons which you are welcome to choose one from.
Sewing thread to match the waistband and bias binding fabric.
Piping cord and all the equipment will be provided.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines. You are, however, welcome to bring your manual, to help you apply the skills you learn to your own machine when you get home.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments.
