If you have never used a sewing machine before (or if you haven’t used one for a while), then this is the course for you!
We have devised a three-week programme of regular evening sessions, designed to give you all the skills you need to begin or progress your journey into the wonderful world of sewing.
Week 1 – Conquer your Sewing Machine and Tote Bag
Week 2 – Button Up!
This week you’ll sew up a basic cushion cover and learn how to make a one-step buttonhole. For this session you’ll bring your own fabric to match your home décor (see 'Additional Information').
Week 3 – Get to Grips with a Zip!
For your final week, you’ll be tackling how to insert a zip into a lined make-up bag, sewn by your very own hands. All materials will be provided for this session so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything along.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for those looking to refresh their skills.
Based at a Home Studio in Chorlton with a small class size.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
If you would like to purchase this workshop as a gift, please contact us with the workshop name and date or go to our Gift a Workshop page.
All materials and equipment are supplied for these workshops and are included in the price (fabrics may vary from the ones pictured), except for the following for the cushion cover in week 2:
50cm of fabric, please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
Matching sewing thread.
2 buttons approximately 25mm (maximum 30mm) in diameter.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines. You are, however, welcome to bring your manual, to help you apply the skills you learn to your own machine when you get home.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments.
