If you want to give your sofa a new lease of life learn how to make two simple matching (or contrasting!) cushions to brighten up your home.
You really don’t need to be an expert to get sewing on this great beginners project. We’ll teach you all the basics of how to use a machine, including how to thread up, fill a bobbin and sew in a straight line.
Using fabrics of your choice (see 'Additional Information'), move onto learning how to construct your cushion, sewing a zip in one and buttonholes on the other. We’ll show you how to sew automatic buttonholes and cover buttons giving you lots of great skills you can take away and use for other projects.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for those looking to refresh their skills.
Based at Bamber Sewing Machines, Ministry of Craft customers get 10% discount on the wide range of fabrics, haberdashery and sewing patterns and there are various discounts available on their sewing machines and overlockers.
If the above date is not suitable or sold out and there are no alternative dates showing below, contact us with the workshop name, so we can let you know if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
You will need to bring the following to the workshop:
1 meter of fabric for two identical cushions or 50cm of two different fabrics for non-identical cushions. Please avoid bulky, stretchy or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal.
Matching sewing thread(s)
2 buttons approximately 25mm (maximum 30mm) in diameter, these can be either covered buttons or regular 2-hole or 4-hole buttons.
1 x 36cm (approx.) closed end standard zip (not a concealed/invisible zip).
Cushion inners measuring 40cm x 40cm (these can be bought later from John Lewis, Ebay, Abakhan).
Please bring a bag to take your cushions home in.
Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (230DC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.
Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and there will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to Asda located opposite.
