A-line or Pencil Skirt

£85.00

Wardrobe staples hold a special place in everyone’s heart, but imagine the thrill of creating one yourself! Join this one-day dressmaking workshop with Alison Leese, expert seamstress and owner of Ministry of Craft, and sew your very own A-line or pencil skirt. You get to choose the shape and length, making your garment truly unique.

Using a fabric of your choice (see ‘What to Bring’), master essential dressmaking techniques as well as using one of our Janome overlockers for a professional finish to raw edges.

You’ll learn to sew waist darts for that perfect fit, inserting a waist facing for a polished finish and adding a clever invisible zip that seamlessly blends into your creation. By the end of the day you’ll not only have a stylish new skirt but also a set of invaluable sewing skills and the confidence to tackle more sewing projects in the future.

Advanced Beginner

As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.

You will need the following materials for your garment (all the equipment will be provided). Please avoid bulky or slippery fabrics; medium weight woven cotton is ideal or a fabric with a small amount of stretch to it (e.g. cotton with elastane), to give you more ease:

  • 1.3m of 115cm wide or 150cm wide fabric.
  • 23cm (9″) concealed/invisible zip (be careful not to pick up a standard zip).
  • 20cm of fusible interfacing.
  • Matching thread.

Tea and coffee will be available at the workshop and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments. There will be a break to eat, so please bring along some lunch or you can pop out to a local shop.

Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (5060 QDC) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring along your own machines.
