MINISTRYMAKES WINNER - NOVEMBER 18

Well done Rae for being awarded our latest Ministry Makes Winner! Rae already had some good basic sewing skills when she joined us for Dressmaking in a Day where she made this amazing lobster print garment. She put her own twist on the garment, making it from a top to a tunic style and adding darts in the back for a more fitted style. I think she looks pretty pleased with the result!

Inspired by the course, Rae went home and finished the garment below that she started before the summer. This is what she told us......

It is a black linen sleeveless, high collared top with an exposed zip at the back and little slits for movement at the waist. It is one of my - please don't look at the seams - home-made designs and constructions which is what I am trying to improve through learning some proper dress-making skills. But it kind of works... more shaping in the back needed (again) but can't do retrospectively because of the stand up collar situation, but I think I will wear it

Pretty impressive I am sure you will agree, it is not easy to create something from scratch in this way without the help of a pattern. The style below is the next one Rae tried, it is the Fielder Top from Merchant and Mills. She is really moving on, increasing her experience and skills working with a knit fabric.

Well done Rae, you are a worthy winner. We look forward to seeing you again soon and thank you for sharing your pictures.

A six-month subscription to Love Sewing Magazine is on the way to Rae.
