If you have never used a sewing machine before (or if you haven’t used one for a while), then this is the course for you!

We have devised a three-week programme of regular evening sessions, designed to give you all the skills you need to begin or progress your journey into the wonderful world of sewing.

Based at Pottery Corner in Chorlton, you’ll find like-minded classmates and the chance to have a wander down Beech Road awash with independent boutiques, restaurants and delis before the class starts!

Week 1 – Conquer your Sewing Machine and Tote Bag

Start by learning the basics, including how to thread a machine, fill a bobbin and sew using the seam guides and the reverse function. You’ll then move onto making a handy tote bag. Learn how to sew seams; finish raw edges with zig-zag stitch; make a hem and straps and create a base and sides to your bag. We will provide you with all the materials and tools you need for this, with your first make under your belt we know you'll be on a roll.

    Week 2 – Button Up!

This week you’ll sew up a basic cushion cover and learn how to make a one-step buttonhole. For this session you’ll bring your own fabric to match your home décor.

Week 3 – Get to Grips with a Zip!

For your final week, you’ll be tackling how to insert a zip into a lined make-up bag, sewn by your very own hands. All materials will be provided for this session so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything along.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for those looking to refresh their skills.

If the above date is not suitable or sold out, please have a look at our alternative dates or contact us with the course name and we will get in touch if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.
