SWIT SWOO! If Joan from Madmen were a dress…

Free your inner bombshell and sew this seriously sexy wiggle dress to flatter your womanly curves. Choose to make either a sleeveless shift-style dress or one with a flattering mid-length sleeve and make the ultimate dress to flatter your figure

You’ll learn how to use a pattern block, sew double point darts, insert sleeves or add a sleeve facing, add a neck facing, put in an invisible zip and finish hems perfectly. What’s more you’ll get a truly professional finish while learning to use one of our Janome overlockers.

PATTERN CUTTING: MADE TO MEASURE BODICE PATTERN is the ideal (but not necessary) workshop to attend prior to this workshop. If you aren’t a standard size i.e. size 14 on the top and the bottom (and who is, let’s face it?), you can draft a bodice to your own measurements then bring it along to use.

As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.

Ministry of Craft customers get 15% off all fabrics in our online shop and 10% discount at Fred Aldous. Discount codes and other offers from our crafty friends will be emailed with your booking confirmation.

If the above date is not suitable or sold out, please have a look at our alternative dates and Sew Social workshop or contact us with the course name and we will get in touch if a place becomes available or when the next date goes on sale.

What to bring for Sew your own Wiggle Dress

If you order fabric from our online fabric shop, it will be waiting for you in our classroom on the day of your course.

For a sleeveless dress you will need 1.5m of 150cm wide fabric or 2.5m of 115cm wide fabric.

For a dress with sleeves you will need 2m of 150cm wide fabric or 3m of 115cm wide fabric.

Please avoid bulky or slippery fabrics; light to medium weight woven cotton is ideal. If you are not a standard size and are attending without taking the  PATTERN CUTTING: MADE TO MEASURE BODICE PATTERN workshop first, then please consider purchasing a fabric with a small amount of stretch to it (e.g. cotton with elastane), to give you movement.

A 56cm (22") concealed/invisible zip (be careful not to pick up a standard zip).

    Matching sewing thread.

Ministry of Craft will supply the interfacing needed.

Contact us before the course if your bust circumference measures outside the range 80cm - 102cm so we can ensure there is a pattern block made in your size and so we can advise how much fabric to bring.

You are welcome to take a copy of your pattern so you can make the item again.

This workshop is part of a Sew Social day, there may be a short wait if the tutor needs to demonstrate a technique required for a different garment. It is, however, a great opportunity to pick up additional skills and chat about what others are doing.

Our sponsors, Janome, supply computerised sewing machines (CLX301) and where required overlockers (6234XL). Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring in your own machines.

Refreshments will be served at the workshop and there will be a 30 minute lunch break so please bring along some lunch.
