    Sessions: 4

    Tutor: Michelle Barnard

    Places Remaining: 3

Skill level: Intermediate Patchwork & Quilting

    Venue: Bamber Sewing Machines

    Stock: 3

Over four sessions, make a Quillow, a cross between a quilt and pillow! Create a beautiful patchwork quilt and an attached pillow cover for the quilt to magically fold into. Makes a cushion and snuggle quilt ideal for the sofa, the back of the car for long journeys or a scatter cushion and hidden extra layer for the bed for chilly nights. This project uses quick-pieced squares and triangles.

Based at Bamber Sewing Machines, you’ll find like-minded classmates; expert tutors and all the fabrics, trims, patterns and sewing tools you could wish for (plus sewing machines and overlockers for those wishing to invest heavier)!

Your tutor, Michelle, will guide you through the process of using a rotary cutter and quilter’s square to cut out your patchwork pieces, quick piecing to create the quilt top and front and back of the pillow. You will then layer your quilt and machine stitch a simple diamond pattern. (More experienced quilters may wish to use a more advanced quilt pattern, but as the quilt is designed to be stored when not in use, simple patterns are recommended).

Michelle will then teach you how to construct your pillow cover before showing how to attach it, bind and finish your project.

By the end of the sessions, you will have a quilt measuring 40 x 60 inches and a pillow/cushion measuring 16 inches square.

Some experience of patchwork and quilting is required for this course.

What to bring for Intermediate Patchwork & Quilting: Split Nine Patch Quillow

You will need to supply your own fabrics for this course. This must be light or medium weight cotton (often sold as craft fabric or quilters’ cotton). For the quilt front, avoid directional patterns (i.e. fabric where you have to keep all the butterflies, for example, one way up), stripes or large patterns - smaller patterns definitely work best.
Stretchy, bulky or silky fabrics are not suitable. It's preferable to gently pre-wash the fabric and press it before the class.

If you order fabric from our online fabric shop, it will be waiting for you in our classroom on the day of your course.
