    Marching forward with Dressmaking

    Marching forward with Dressmaking

So my March make (3 down 9 to go!) was the dress that started this whole personal challenge. I managed to do an alright job of this dress and I actually felt confident about wearing it out in public (other garments have made me a bit nervous!) I found it easier to make it a second time (you can see the first attempt here (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/ministry-of-craft-blog/a-dress-at-last)), which is probably a shining endorsement for taking the time to make a toile. I gave myself a  ..

    A Dress at Last

    A Dress at Last

Please believe me when I tell you that I finished this dress in February. It proved more of a problem to find the time to photograph it than to actually make it! If you cast your mind back you may recall that this fabric was a sale purchase from Ditto Fabrics. The pattern (Butterick B6086) I realised when making it is strikingly similar to our fit and flare dress (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/workshops/all-courses/sew-your-own-fit-flare-dress). This is a shape I wear often and I didn't m ..

    Fabric Friday!

    Fabric Friday!

We've had another delivery of gorgeous fabric and Alison has cracked into it already. She's made a beautiful stretch top and a pretty polka dot dress. you'll have to wait for pics though. We've got a photo shoot in a few weeks and I have a feeling that these are going to be the stars of the show. Our new fabrics are super soft stretch jersey and they look fantastic sewn up into lovely garments. Our new stretches are (from top left) Multi Circles on White (http://www.ministryofcraft.c ..

    March Pattern Picks

    March Pattern Picks

So first an apology! I have garments to share from February that I just haven't found the time to photograph them but I assure you they will be with you forthwith. This month we've each picked a pattern that's caught our eye over the last few weeks. They are (due to our own time restrictions!) patterns for the future. I don't know about you but I currently have a long list of 'future' projects. Hopefully I'll be able to find the time to complete my pattern pick in the near future! I  ..

    #Ministrymakes Winner - February

    #Ministrymakes Winner - February

It's been a dreary month but luckily you've shared plenty of creative crafting to keep us inspired. This month's winning make reminds me of an old Swedish saying that goes something like; 'If you can't buy it, make it yourself, if you don't know how, learn.' Congratulations to our winner Louise, here's what she said about her make; 'A washing machine I made for my 1-year-old nephew, who loves domestic chores! I made this up completely as I couldn't find anything similar anywhere  ..

Book Review - Sewing Dress Up by Emma Hardy

Don't you love 'good post' days? It's how we feel whenever we receive a lovely little package from our pals at Cico Books. This time they've send us the super inspiring and cute 'Sewing Dress up (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sewing-Dress-Up-cute-easy-costumes/dp/1782493123)' by Emma Hardy which has loads of ideas for dressing up little people. But wait, there is no reason that these great ideas have to be exclusively for under 12's, some of the idea's in this book have left me confident of m ..

We've been very inspired by your makes in January, you have truly lifted us out of our post Christmas stupor! It was a tough month to judge but there can only be one winner and this month that is the fabulous Claudia! Jennifer's February Pattern Pick

    Jennifer's February Pattern Pick

Another month, another pattern. I've been very inspired by the fantastic sewer's on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ministryofcraftmcr/) and this month's pattern is inspired by them! So with out further ado my pattern this month is Butterick B6086 (http://butterick.mccall.com/b6086-products-48782.php?page_id=155). It's a 'very easy' pattern so I'm hoping it'll be less confusing than the Vogue one I did last month (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/ministry-of-craft-blog/give-us-a-to ..

    Fabric Friday!

    Fabric Friday!

We're bigging ourselves up today because we've fallen in love again with two fabrics that we have in out (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/fabric.html)online shop (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/shop/fabric/cotton-jolie-in-wine). If you're anything like us it's easy to forget all the loveliness you have in your own fabric stash. Then one day your rooting about and you rediscover metres of beauty that you've completely overlooked. The first is (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/sho ..
