    Jennifer's February Pattern Pick

    Jennifer's February Pattern Pick

Another month, another pattern. I've been very inspired by the fantastic sewer's on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ministryofcraftmcr/) and this month's pattern is inspired by them! So with out further ado my pattern this month is Butterick B6086 (http://butterick.mccall.com/b6086-products-48782.php?page_id=155). It's a 'very easy' pattern so I'm hoping it'll be less confusing than the Vogue one I did last month (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/ministry-of-craft-blog/give-us-a-to ..

    Fabric Friday!

    Fabric Friday!

We're bigging ourselves up today because we've fallen in love again with two fabrics that we have in out (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/fabric.html)online shop (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/shop/fabric/cotton-jolie-in-wine). If you're anything like us it's easy to forget all the loveliness you have in your own fabric stash. Then one day your rooting about and you rediscover metres of beauty that you've completely overlooked. The first is (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/sho ..

    Fabric Friday!

    Fabric Friday!

This week we've been swooning over all the stretch fabrics at Girl Charlee Fabrics (http://www.girlcharlee.co.uk/). Finding interesting stretch fabric can be difficult but their selection is fun and colourful and perfect for brightening up winter dressmaking. These are a few of our favourites, but to be honest it's hard to narrow it down! We love this gorgeous Orange Botanical Floral (http://www.girlcharlee.co.uk/orange-botanical-floral-on-navy-cotton-spandex-blend-knit-fabric-p-11 ..

    Cloning around

    Cloning around

The New Year has put a spring in my step and I've been making some headway with the many new workshops I'm hoping to bring to you in 2016. I'm a great advocate of stretch fabric, once you gain confidence sewing these fabrics, your sewing repetiore really starts to expand. Not least because we all have plenty of stretch in our wardrobes already. So when you're looking to create a truly 'me made' wardrobe' being able to sew with stretch fabric is a must. I had this lovely comfy dress from  ..

    Give us a toile

    Give us a toile

Well here it is, my first effort at dressmaking in 6 years (I realised this as I was sewing) I have to say the picture doesn't do it justice, in fact this picture is letting me get away with murder! The thing about dressmaking, I thought as I was butchering the neckline, is that it doesn't come naturally to me. I tend to botch my way through and often I come away with nothing more than some ruined fabric. When I committed to making a garment a month I'd conveniently forgotten this (http ..

    Mad for Skirts

    Mad for Skirts

Classic Shaped skirts never go out of style, from Kim Kardashian's pencil-skirt-crop-top combo to Alexa Chung and her extensive collection of mini's, skirts are a wardrobe staple. Apparently today is the bluest day of the year so let's brighten it up with some style and some yellow. I'm obsessed with yellow at this time of year, it just brings so much needed sunshine to the darkness of winter! I found these images on Pinterest (https://uk.pinterest.com/ministrycraft/), from l ..

    Fabric Friday!

    Fabric Friday!

Liberty (http://www.liberty.co.uk/) have released their new season fabrics and we're in love! If only they did bank loans for fabric stashes! Liberty have billed this collection as 'a beautiful exploration of the imaginative mind and skilled hand of the artist..' and this collection really looks like the inner thoughts of a creative genius! Bold, bright and beautiful we hope we're lucky enough to make a little something for ourselves from this collection. View the whole collection he ..

    Brighten up your January

    Brighten up your January

January can be such a dark month, full of hunger (damn Christmas!) and cold weather. But it's also a time for new things, like a premature Spring, it's a time when we are full of hope and plans for the coming year. I've been brightening up my January with some pretty paper flowers. It's a present for a loved one who is unlucky enough to have a January Birthday (I really think this is the worst month for Birthday's!) But it's also a well timed foray into this craft as we have a new ..

    Jennifer's January Pattern Pick

    Jennifer's January Pattern Pick

2016 is here and with it comes a renewed passion for getting things done! I don't know about you but there's something about this time of year that just makes me want to plan. Something that I'll personally be committing to this year (famous last words) is trying to sew at least one garment for myself a month. Now obviously this may sound more than easy to you keen sewers out there but I have to admit that although I love sewing, I've never really been interested in dressmaking. So why  ..

    #Ministrymakes Winner - December

    #Ministrymakes Winner - December

We had lots of lovely entries for Decembers #MinistryMakes but there could only be one person to take the festive crown! Step forward the marvelous Katrina who not only made these gorgeously sewn Christmas Stockings but managed to finish a quilt 4 weeks early for an eager arrival! We think the little baby who gets to snuggle down in this quilt is very lucky. Well done Katrina! If you're full of New Years enthusiasm then enter #MinistryMakes (http://www.ministryofcraft.co.uk/min ..
