    MINISTRY MAKES WINNER - UZMA

    MINISTRY MAKES WINNER - UZMA

Uzma certainly has the sewing bug and there is no stopping her! She has been telling us how much she has been enjoying the workshops. We have really enjoyed having her attend and have pleasure in making her a Ministry Makes winner.

Uzma started off making this beautiful Clutch Purse on our Snap Frame Purse workshop, (now been replaced by our new Bag Making Workshop).

She then swiftly moved onto garment workshops making our Fit n Flare Dress, Kimono and Capri Trousers - don’t the garments look and fit amazingly?

Uzma kindly shared the below about herself and some examples of her work:

I am 25 years old and I live in Preston. I absolutely love making and designing things! I have a BA degree in Graphic Design and recently I graduated with a masters degree in Surface Pattern and Textiles at the University of Central Lancashire. My passion for sewing came at a very young age where I began sewing simple items such as bags, scarves and clothing for dolls. Throughout school and college my love for crafting and making just got stronger and stronger which lead me to study design at University.

I have for the most part focused on designing patterns and prints for interiors, home ware, stationery and fashion which I enjoy producing as the process of drawing and painting to create surface pattern designs is both playful and free. Because my focus had been on designing, I want to combine my love for drawing with making.

Attending the workshops at Ministry of Craft has given me much confidence and the knowledge for pattern and garment making. It's really exciting to see your designs as finished garments or accessories and having control on how you want it to look.

In the near future I plan on starting up as a freelancer and hope to run workshops on digital design for textiles and fashion.

I have won a scholarship to do 3 months of full time Design training in Manchester at Shillington, hoping this will help me with my plans to become a freelance designer and maybe part time teaching. So I look forward to seeing you at a workshop in maybe December/January!

Well done Uzma, you are a worthy winner. We look forward to seeing you again soon and will be keeping an eye on your future progress.

A six-month subscription to Love Sewing Magazine is on the way to Uzma.
