Literally dazzle your friends with two stunning, yet very different lampshades made by you!

Using a fabric of your choice start by developing the basic skills of shade making to complete a lampshade, (30cm diameter) which can be used as a pendant or table lampshade and take home enough hints and tips to make a shade for every room! Then get creative with wood veneer to make a very personal shade to meet your own size and style requirements.

Our equipment includes a pyrography pen, which allows you to burn patterns onto the veneer - sounds tricky, but it’s just like drawing a pattern onto paper and very addictive! You can pierce holes for decorative effect or sew through the veneer, adding adornments such as buttons and fabric.

istock_000005866365xsmallWith guidance from interior lighting designer Jane Blease and taking inspiration from our range of decorative pattern samples and materials, you are guaranteed to leave with two lampshades like no other!

Make and Take: Fabric pendant or table light shade, measuring 30cm in diameter and up to 35 cm deep. Veneer table light shade measuring 20 cm diameter and 20 cm deep.

Skills at a glance: Basic fabric and veneer lampshade construction, basic cutting skills, developing a veneer pattern design, using a range of complimentary embellishments, including learning how to use a pyrography pen.

Tutor: Jane Blease
