Date: Saturday 19 June
Time: 10.00 - 15.00
Duration: 1 session
Cost: £70 (includes £15 material cost)
Skill Level: All levels
Venue: Fred Aldous - Art, Craft & Design Materials
Literally dazzle your friends with two stunning, yet very different lampshades made by you!
Using a fabric of your choice start by developing the basic skills of shade making to complete a lampshade, (30cm diameter) which can be used as a pendant or table lampshade and take home enough hints and tips to make a shade for every room!
Then get creative with wood veneer and choose from one of our three designs. Add your own personal touches by creating your own pattern layout and use of coloured felt, background shapes or contrasting threads and ribbons, to compliment your own home style. Then have fun putting together your design with a pyrography pen, which allows you to burn and pierce patterns onto the veneer - sounds tricky, but it’s just like drawing a pattern onto paper and very addictive!
With guidance from interior lighting designer Jane Blease and taking inspiration from our range of decorative pattern samples and materials, you are guaranteed to leave with two lampshades like no other!
Make and Take: Pendant or table light shade made with your own fabric, measuring 30 cm diameter and a maximum of 35cm in depth and a veneer table lampshade, measuring 20 cm in diameter and 20cm in depth.
Skills at a glance: Planning, measuring and constructing a fabric lampshade and basic pattern designing incorporating craft materials, manipulating veneer and learning the art of using a pyrography pen.
Tutor: Jane Blease
Need to know: You will need to supply fabric of your choice that measures 110 cm by 40 cm. Ideal fabrics would be light or medium weight cotton or linen. Sheer fabrics are not suitable for this project. All materials and equipment are supplied for this course, but you may want to bring along 2 meters of 2.5cm wide ribbon in a colour of your choice for your veneer lampshade.
There will be a 30 minutes lunch break. Please bring along your own lunch.
