If you want to give your sofa a new lease of life this autumn learn how to make two simple matching (or contrasting!) cushions to brighten up your home.
You really don’t need to be an expert to get sewing on this great beginners project. We’ll teach you all the basics of how to use a machine, including how to thread up, fill a bobbin and sew in a straight line.
You’ll then move onto learning how to construct your cushion, sewing a zip in one and button holes on the other over the two sessions. We’ll show you how to sew both a manual and automatic buttonhole giving you lots of great skills you can take away and use for other projects. You’ll also use an overlocker (a sewing machine that cuts the fabric while finishing the edges!)
Bring along your own fabric to match your décor and then the satisfying bit - take them home and admire your handiwork!
Make and Take: Two 40cm x 40cm cushions - one finished with a zip closure and one finished with buttonhole closures
Skills at a glance: Basic sewing machine skills, including threading a machine, filling a bobbin and sewing straight lines. Putting in a zip, sewing buttonholes, attaching buttons and using an overlocker.

Need to know: So you can make your cushions to suit your own décor, please bring along 1 meter of fabric for two identical cushions or 50 cm of two different fabrics for non identical cushions. Please note that slippy, stretchy or bulky fabrics are not suitable for this course. You will also need a matching zip and cotton(s). We have a selection of buttons for you to choose from, although you are welcome to bring along your own. Cushions inners will be supplied.
