If you’ve always wanted to know how to use a sewing machine and use your skills making alterations to garments yourself, this is the course for you!
Start by learning the basics, including how to thread a machine, fill a bobbin and do a variety of useful stitches and become a real machine queen! We’ll then help you to master both hand and sewing machine techniques, meaning you will be able to confidently hem and alter a pair of trousers and / or a skirt.
Once you’ve got these skills under your belt, we’ll teach you how to take in clothes to fit your body shape using darts, which will help you transform loose fitting garments from baggy to tailored.
This is a brilliant opportunity to learn a skill that will start saving you money immediately and expand your existing wardrobe.
Make and Take: Your own pair of trousers or skirt altered and ready to wear
Skills at a glance: Basic sewing machine skills, measuring, marking and pinning for alterations, basic hems, seams and darts.
Tutor: Sam Moylan
Need to know: We have plenty of garments for you to practice on, but bring along your own trousers or a skirt that need altering to be worked on in the class. There will a small amount of homework between the first and second session, to prepare your garment ready for sewing. This sewing machine course is suitable for complete beginners or for those looking to refresh their sewing machine skills.
