If you’ve always wanted to know how to use a sewing machine and make alterations to a garment yourself our improved Basic machine skills and alterations is the course for you!

Start by learning the basics, including how to thread a machine, fill a bobbin and do a variety of useful stitches and become a real machine queen! We’ll then help you to master both hand and sewing machine techniques, meaning you will be able to confidently hem and alter a pair of trousers and / or a skirt. Once you’ve got these skills under your belt, we’ll teach you how to take in clothes to fit your body shape - a skill we’ve added to the course based on customer feedback!

This is a brilliant opportunity to learn a skill that will start saving you money immediately and expand your existing wardrobe.

Make and Take: Your own pair of trousers or skirt altered and ready to wear

Skills at a glance: Basic sewing machine skills, measuring, marking and pinning for alterations, basic hems, seams and darts.

Tutor: Sam Moylan

Need to know: We have plenty of garments for you to practice on, but bring along your own trousers or a skirt that need altering to be worked on in the class.
