If dressmaking is not your thing but you’re ready for a sewing machine challenge why not combine old and new skills and make one of these gorgeous 50s style snap frame purses.

Using your own choice of fabric and lining, we’ll take you step by step through using a pattern, constructing the body of your purse and affixing a metal snap frame. You’ll make your purse, using fleece for strength and durability, meaning you can use it over and over again!

To get the best from this course you’ll need to be able to thread a machine and bobbin and sew a straight and zig-zag stitch or have taken one of our basic sewing skills courses Beginners Sewing: Candy striped make up bag, Basic sewing machine skills and alterations or Beginners Sewing: Zip and buttonhole cushions

Make and Take: 50s style purse - one of two different pattern styles (see above)

Skills at a glance: Using a pattern, sewing seams, how to attach lining fabric, use fleece for strength and affix a metal snap frame.

Need to know: So you can make your purse to suit your own style, you will need to supply no more than 50cm by 25cm of outer purse fabric and 50 cm by 25cm of lining fabric, along with cotton to match the outer fabric. More information will be emailed to you on booking along with a list of our recommended suppliers. You must be able to thread a machine and bobbin and sew a straight and zig-zag stitch. There will be a 30 minutes lunch break. Please bring along your own lunch.
